Thuong Dinh, the Vietnamese trainer!

Thuong-Dinh.jpg

Thuong Dinh is the latest brand of trainers to hit the market. However, they weren't just created yesterday, as their history is firmly anchored in that of Vietnam since 1957.

Originally, the brand was the official army supplier. Situated just outside of Hanoi, they were even bombarded by the American B-52's during the war. The factory workers came together to participate in their city's defence, creating trenches and designing an anti-aerial shield in the heart of the factory. In 1961, the brand designed their first trainers, which at the time were designed for badminton and Plumfoot, a local sport played with a shuttlecock and often host to acrobatic movements.

Today, it's fashion fans who can't get enough of Thuong Dinh shoes!

Fashion Against AIDS

When it comes to fighting for a good cause, H&M goes all out. After their many collaborations with famous high-fashion designers and stars of the international music scene, the ready-to-wear brand has launched a mini-collection with 25% of the profits going  to finance projects that teach young adults about the risks of HIV.

Within the program "Designers Against Aids", H&M has designed a line of bohemian clothing that goes perfectly with the summer's festival trend. For inspiration, you'll find rock and roll, the 70s, ethnicity, and glamour. Trends which are regularly in the spotlight thanks to it-girls such as Alexa Chung and Pixie Geldof, and which are appearing more and more often on the runways and  in design houses.

By focusing on the younger generation, the brand hopes to bring together as many people as possible in the fight against AIDS, while simultaneously collecting enough money to participate in the creation of an ever larger educative project. The result is fresh, light, and full of character, with raw and fluid materials in tangy colours with psychedelic accents to reinforce their audacious cuts and designs.

And to take the trend even further, H&M has designed sleeping bags, tents, and camping chairs to complete your festival kit!

Clever Little Bag: Puma takes a step towards sustainable development

After having included social and environmental standards within their company, Puma has taken the next step in announcing a packaging system that is respectful of the environment and sustainable distribution to be put in place by the year 2011.  Helped by the famous industrial designer Yves Béhar, the brand has even helped define the new norms within the sportswear industry.

The objective of this new initiative is twofold: the reduction of CO2 waste and emissions that are usually generated by the manufacturing and utilisation of shoe boxes and plastic bags, and also to diminish by 25% the volume of wastes and energy and water consummation within their company. Thus, Puma hopes to save more than 190 tons of plastic and 290 tons of paper per year.

" The Puma initiative is to attack one of largest problems in the industry with regards to eco-friendly distribution and sustainable development", says Yves Béhar. "By modifying the entire packaging and distribution process, we hope that our new design solution will encourage other companies in our sector to follow our example".

To reduce their ecological impact, Puma has committed to reducing wastes, CO2 emissions and water/energy consummation in their offices, stores, and warehouses, as well as their factories and suppliers by 25% by the year 2015. The brand proudly displays their desire to reduce paper use by their employees, both direct and indirect, by 75% and to compensate for the remaining percentage by replanting trees and finding more efficient and eco-friendly transportation solutions.

Even more, Puma has announced that by 2015, at least 50% of their international collections will be manufactured from sustainable materials such as organic cotton and recycled polyester, or issued from fair trade suppliers, in compliance with a process completely in agreement with the norms of sustainable development.

Dr.Martens Celebrates 50 years!

For the past 40 years, Dr.Martens has called upon numerous names in fashion such as  Jean-Paul Gaultier to customise their emblematic model (the 1460), this year Dr Martens has chosen to celebrate their 50 year anniversary with ten artists from the international rock scene who have been called upon to feature the shoe in a music clip. Noisettes, The Duke Spirit, DaM FunK… so many modern groups that have been chosen to represent the rebellious and authentic spirit of the brand. a

No need to say that since their development for orthopaedic purposes, the Doc has come a long way! While their first fans in the 1960s were the working class, the punk scene was quick to take them and make them the emblem of a non-conformist and rebellious generation. In the '70s and '80s, groups like The Who, The Clash, and The Cure brought them to a wider fan base.

In the 1990s, they became iconic among rebellious celebrities like Johnny Depp, Lenny Kravitz, and Gwen Stefani, and in 2009 the  Doc made a real comeback, this time in the haute-couture world of fashion. Fashionable celebrities and famous models wear them for every occasion! Among them Agyness Deyn, Lindsay Lohan and Pixie Geldof  dress them up and down with  different designers, propelling them into the category of must have fashion!

Virginie Ledoyen and Vincent Perez: the new IKKS muses!

For the ten year anniversary of their women's collection and for the first time since their creation in 1987, IKKS has associated their image with two muses chosen for their discretion, their charm, and their spontaneity: Virgenie Ledoyen and Vincent Perez. For the occasion, the two actors were photographed in natural light by Nathaniel Goldberg, fashion photographer and portrait artist working between Paris and New York.

The campaign consists of a series of images combining American scenery and phone booth photos while highlighting the  two key pieces of their spring/summer collection: the trench coat and the military shirt.

Authentic and illustrating natural beauty, Virginie Ledoyen represents the modern woman, at once elegant and relaxed, modern and trendy. The trench without sleeves is worn open and lightly creased to underline its spontaneous charm: the shirt is authentic and fitted to show its casual, chic style.

Vincent Perez has been chosen for his sexy and charming "bad boy" style that inspires both sympathy and fascination. The trench is worn short and relaxed, underlining its casual nature with style: the shirt is on the frontier of chic and urban for a style that is subtly nonchalant.

The result is fresh, timeless, and proudly represents the fundamental values of IKKS: style, natural looks, and daily comfort.

Geox puts the Empire State Building in a shoe!

To celebrate the opening of their new boutique in New York, right in front of the Empire State Building, Geox has designed a limited edition collection of high heels that pay tribute to the world's best known skyscraper. What's unique: a 12 cm high heel in the form of the monument.

Creating an element of surprise, the Italian brand has expressed a strong desire to reinvent and modernise their image. " We are in the process of redefining our style", confirms Mario Moretti Polegato, president and founder of Geox, during the inauguration of the New York store.

A guaranteed success considering that these creative high heels also benefit from a glamourous and fun design. A real improvement for the brand that is best known for their breathable soles rather than their style.
